Aluminium (chemical symbol Al) is a metallic element with atomic number 13. It has a low density, approximately one-third that of steel, and is therefore classified as a lightweight metal.
When exposed to air, aluminium rapidly forms a thin oxide layer on its surface, protecting the underlying metal and enhancing its corrosion resistance.

Primary aluminium production generally involves two main stages:
Bayer Process: refining bauxite ore to produce alumina (Al₂O₃).
Hall–Héroult Process: electrolysing alumina dissolved in a molten electrolyte to produce aluminium metal.

Aluminium sulfate – Al₂(SO₄)₃: used in water treatment, paper production and various chemical industries.
Aluminium chloride – AlCl₃: used in a range of chemical processes, particularly as a catalyst.
