Bauxite Mining Technologies

1. Overview

Bauxite is an important raw material for the global aluminium industry. In response to increasingly stringent requirements for production efficiency, occupational safety, and environmental protection, the bauxite mining industry is progressively modernizing through the adoption of advanced technologies and sustainable development solutions.

2. Key Technology Trends

2.1. Automation in Mining

The adoption of automated and semi-automated equipment, such as autonomous haul trucks, remotely operated excavators, and real-time monitoring systems, can help improve productivity, reduce operational risks, and optimize mining activities.

2.2. Digital Transformation in Mine Management

Technologies such as 3D modelling, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), artificial intelligence (AI), and integrated mine management systems are increasingly being applied to support surveying, planning, data management, and the monitoring of mining operations.

The digitalization of mine data also enhances monitoring and analytical capabilities and supports more effective decision-making during operations.

2.3. Mining Integrated with Environmental Protection

Mining activities are increasingly being integrated with land rehabilitation, topsoil conservation and management, dust control, and post-mining ecosystem restoration.

These measures help minimize environmental impacts while supporting landscape rehabilitation and appropriate post-mining land use.

2.4. Advances in Bauxite Beneficiation

Bauxite beneficiation technologies are progressively being improved to enhance beneficiation efficiency, improve feed quality for downstream processing, optimize water use, and reduce waste generation during production.

2.5. Low-Emission Mining

The bauxite mining industry is increasingly moving toward the use of cleaner energy, energy-efficient or electrically powered vehicles and equipment, and the gradual implementation of solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions from mining and operational activities.

3. Sustainable Development Direction

Technological innovation not only contributes to greater production efficiency but also plays an important role in advancing the sustainable development of the mining industry.

The integration of modern technology, effective environmental management, and efficient resource utilization is becoming an increasingly important direction for the modern mining sector.

4. Application at the Project

At the Dakcheung Bauxite–Alumina Industrial Complex Project, VLV plans to progressively study and adopt advanced technological solutions for mining and mine management, including:

  • Progressive application of automation in operational activities;
  • Implementation of digital solutions for management and monitoring;
  • Strengthening environmental control and post-mining rehabilitation.

These initiatives are intended to improve operational efficiency, enhance occupational safety, and support the Project’s long-term sustainable development.
